It's a BOY!

On Thursday, May 23, at 16 weeks and 2 days pregnant, we found out we are expecting a little baby boy! Everyone in our family except for my mom and Jason's dad guessed right, but I was still so surprised! When I first found out I was pregnant, I thought it would be a girl, but for about a week or so leading up to finding out I started to feel like it was a boy. I think he knew I thought he was a girl and was trying to tell me, "I'm a boy, Mom!" So much for my maternal instinct!

I would have been thrilled no matter what, but now that we know he's a boy I'm so glad! I'm excited that we have a boy to carry on Jason's last name (we were his family's only chance) and I'm excited that hopefully he'll get to be a big brother someday. I just love the idea of big brothers :)  Plus, it's so much fun planning now that we know he's a boy! We've already picked him out some adorable outfits, including a Mickey Mouse outfit in case he makes his debut early and in time for Halloween. Today we got him some tiny plaid shorts and a preppy little sweater that I adore.

My favorite picture of him is the 3D one they took of his face. I can't stop staring at it! It's so amazing to think that there is a real person growing inside of me, with eyes and a nose and a mouth and ten fingers and ten toes.

I can't wait to kiss his sweet face and hold him in my arms for the first time. He's a perfect little miracle and I love him with all my heart. I am so blessed and so thankful!

16 Weeks

How Far Along: 16 weeks
Total Weight Gain: blissfully ignorant until they weigh me at my appointment tomorrow
Maternity Clothes: I got some new clothes finally! A pair of shorts, some black capris, skinny jeans and two tops. I am SO glad I have more pants to wear.
Sleep: Same old, same old.
Stretch Marks: still nothing so far, thank goodness
Highlight of the Week: I'm 95% sure I felt the baby wiggling around yesterday! I want to talk to the doctor tomorrow to confirm if that's what it was or if I was imagining it. It's so hard to tell, but at first I thought it was my own pulse in my stomach, but it wasn't consistent enough for that. I did some research and I think what I felt was the baby hiccuping.
Missing: nothing really
Movement: I think so!
Cravings: Speedy Freezes! I've had one almost every day this week. They are so good!
Food Aversions: still nothing in particular
Symptoms: not much besides the constant waking up to pee at night
Showing yet: oh yes
Gender: 2 more days!!!
Labor Signs: No
Belly Button In or Out: In
Wedding Rings On or Off: On
Most looking forward to: finding out the gender!
Milestones: Feeling the baby move of course :)

Baby Gender Predictions: Old Wives Tales

Since we are finding out Little Baby Hyatt's gender on Thursday, I figured I'd compile a list of predictions based on popular old wives tales. Based on the results, it looks like a baby girl is on the way, but we'll know for sure soon!

  1. Carrying high means a girl is on the way; low predicts a baby boy: ????
  2. Breakouts mean a little girl is stealing mama’s beauty: GIRL
  3. When mama’s wedding ring is suspended from a string over her belly, it’ll swing in a circle for a boy or back and forth for a girl: GIRL
  4. If baby’s heart rate is over 140 bpm baby is a girl. If it’s 140 or less, baby is a boy: GIRL
  5. Legend says mama will crave sweets with a girl and saltys with a boy: ????
  6. The Mayans believed that if the mama’s age at conception and the year of the baby’s birth are both even or odd, it’s a girl. If one is even and the other is odd, it’s a boy: BOY
  7. Morning sickness means pink. If you're stricken with a queasy stomach during your first trimester think ribbons and bows. if you sail through your pregnancy with nary an upset stomach, it's blue all the way: GIRL
  8. Pay attention to which way you lay down in bed tonight. If you prefer sleeping on your left side, you'll have a boy. Right side? You’re pregnant with a girl: GIRL
  9. If a toddler boy (ie: my nephew Landon) shows interest in your belly, you'll have a girl. If he ignores you, it's a boy: GIRL
  10. According to the Chinese gender predictor based on mama’s age at conception and the month of conception, my baby is a: BOY
What do YOU think Little Baby Hyatt will be?
